Favourites | October Beauty 2014

Well then, hellogoodbye to October. It seems fall is still here though so all is well. It's crazy to think the holidays are rapidly approaching. I have to admit I am super excited, but I definitely can wait. This year needs to slow down. I was just joking to Preston that old movies used to quote 2015 as the year for flying cars and such. Anywayyy back to the beauty. Not too many new favourites this month as I am quite enjoying my routine.

Nail Art | Sugar Skulls

Happy Halloween!!! [Almost.] I have some cute little skelly-friends on my nails today. I saw this picture on Instagram and knew I had to try it out. Obviously, not even close to as good (Pshiiit Polish is ah-mazing!), but I love them. And if you are willing to let them be a bit imperfect, it doesn't take long to do. You just need a dotting tool.

Birchbox Man | November

I may have just sold Preston on my love of Birchbox. He is a super low-maintenance guy and figured he wouldn't be able to use all the fancy grooming products, but so far Birchbox has been right on the mark. Our first BB Man box was October, and we decided to get another month. So, I thought I would share. The theme this month is "On a Mission."

Nail Art | A Subtle Fade

I love fall nail polish and sometimes face a bit of a dilemma when having to choose a colour. This gradient features two of my favourite fall berry shades, Zoya Monica and Zoya Margo, for a super subtle fade effect.

A $5 Too Faced Pretty Rebel Dupe

When I spotted this little elf set at Walgreens, I was excited. The colours looked so pretty, and for only five dollars, it was a steal. I was impressed that the set featured good mix of neutrals and jeweltones in fun combinations. It wasn't until I came home that it dawned on me....I already have these shades. No wonder I was so impressed with the colours; the same thoughts rolled in my head when I purchased the Too Faced Pretty Rebel palette. I couldn't help but laugh at my beauty junkie moment- I basically bought the same exact palette.

A Little Sunday Routine

I try to use Sunday as a bit of a catch-up day. Monday-Friday is all about work, and Saturday I try to have one fun activity planned (Plus, spending the whole night catching up on my Coursera classes. School, I can't quit you.) This Sunday has been spent catching up on the blog, but I am penciling in some time to relax. Here are a few of the products that are on the agenda.

Seven

It has been a long, long time since I did a Seven. I had been blogging more regularly for awhile so it seemed redundant, followed by adding a full-time job to the schedule which seriously reduced my picture taking quota. I am still trying to find that work/life/hobby/learning/cleaning/friends/boyfriend/relaxation balance, but there are never enough hours in the day it seems...

[Going through this adorable list from Strange & Charmed as activity inspiration]

[Tested out this recipe from Nouvelle Daily. Yum.]

[Reuniting with old friends :] ]

[Can't get enough of the fall air.]

[Going to work isn't too bad with this view.]

[A festive weekend of Dino BBQ & Book of Life]

[& of course, pumpkin carving.]

Are you up to anything fun this Halloween?

Zoya Sansa

I shared some of the new nail polishes I picked up from Zoya's fall collection earlier this month. So I figured it was about time to show some swatches! This is Zoya Sansa. I have quite the love of purple polishes already, so adding the Game of Thrones reference just meant I had to have it even more.

Review | Best Skins Ever

A bit of a random review today, but with all the buzz about the latest iPhone, I figured some people might be interested. As you can see, I do not have the new iPhone. I actually have the iPhone 4. Yup, just plan 4. So old that I can't even update to the latest software. Even though my phone is over 4 years old, it is completely scratch free. Partly due to my obsessiveness about not dropping it, but these skins helped too. They are virtually undetectable, applying so smoothly. Unlike regular skins they aren't just a sticker that leaves bubbles and residue, just to peel off in a week. You apply them by spraying a bit of water (with a hint of dishwashing detergent in it) to the skin and then you apply it to your phone. You then smooth everything out with a credit card, and let it dry to seal.  If you treated yo self to the new iPhone, I highly recommend picking up a pack. They also have a ton of other model options too. They really are the best skins ever.

How do you protect your tech gadgets?

IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Palette

In a recent beauty exchange, my friend passed along the IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Palette to me. I was super excited to try this out. It's an all matte palette of a range of muted hues plus a "transforming pearl" shade to switch the finish. I used the warmer shades in this look and kept them matte. I still need to experiment with the pearl shade more!

Birchbox | October 2014

For October, Preston & I were both BB subscribers. I wish I got some shots of his box, but timing, though not good for pictures, was perfect for him to bring some of the samples for his trip. I just got my box a couple of days ago. The theme is "fanfare". Not too wowed by the theme, but it's a good variety of samples this month-all in true deluxe size too which is nice.

Sick Girl's Guide

I feel awful about being MIA after promising a post a day. This weekend killed me. I first thought it was allergies mixed with the emotions of bad news, but then I succumbed to the fact that it was feeling more and more like cold/flu symptoms (after I got my flu shot last week, to my luck.) Today, I literally walked into work and was like "nope" and walked right back out. Fortunately, I was feeling well enough yesterday to run some errands- a.k.a. pick up some dayquil/nyquil and plenty of juice.

A few other things popped up in my cart in the Target aisles, such as a new pair of pajamas. This pair is so cute & comfy I actually don't feel to slovenly spending all day in them. Drinks. I should have known I was starting to feel under the weather because I was subconsciously buying a ton of juice. I have already gone through a whole jug of apple and now I am working on the grapefruit. Green tea is also a must have. It helps sooth and scratchy throat and helps calms me. Being sick stresses me out- I feel like I am wasting so much time when I have a ton of things I should be doing. I'm crossing my fingers I'll at least be able to muster the strength straighten up the apartment, so the day doesn't feel like a total loss. But until then it's lying on the coach with a wet washcloth over my forehead for me....

What do you do when you are sick? Any tips??

Dinner & a Movie

It was quite the dreary day today, so Preston & I decided to postpone a walk around the park and do a dinner and a movie instead. We used to be avid movie-goers. Especially, when we first started dating in high school-it was just the default place to go. We would see so many movies that we would guess which previews would be featured before the film. Lately, we have been much more interested in watching TV series on the couch. I think it's more of a quality of motion pictures thing than an actual laziness. Anyway...I had been really wanting to see Gone Girl. I have read all of Gillian Flynn's novels last year and heard the screen adaptation was awesome. Preston was in Portland when it came out, so I was eager for him to come back so we could go see it.

Favourites | September Lifestyle

We are already a week and a half into October. Time is seriously flying. I am so excited about the upcoming weeks. I have so many friends & family coming to enjoy fall in the city. Today I thought I would share a few things that became favourites in September and so far this October.

Fall Nails | Zoya Ignite & Entice

Fall nails are definitely my fav. I love the deep jewel-tones and rich metallics. Zoya Nail Polish is hands (and nails) down my favourite brand, and their fall collections are the best. Ignite & Entice are this year's collections of foils and cremes. I picked up four shades from the collections, though I am certainly lusting after more.

October Inspiration

I fall in and out of obsession with Pinterest. But lately, I have been on a pinning streak-here are a few recent pins that I am hoping to recreate this October.

Feeling Fall

For me, Fall is like the New Year. It feels like a fresh start, new beginnings. The lazy days of summer can start to feel a bit stagnate. Once Autumn rolls around, I feel like taking on new projects, forming new routines. I also feel like bold lips & rust coloured shadows.

Nail Art | Turquoise

My first attempt at the gorgeous turquoise mani-and I am in love! I have seen so many renditions and even nail wraps. I was shocked by how easy it was to get this look!

Small Space Decor | Fall & Halloween

I am pumped for Fall & Halloween. I love decorating my space for the season, but with it being so small, I have to make sure I keep from going overboard. 1. It could look overwhelming & 2. I have absolutely nowhere to store copious amounts of holiday fare. I try to just add a few touches here & there to make the space seem homey and seasonally appropriate, of course.

Not That Kind of Girl-y Weekend

I am all alone. My other half, Preston, is on a mountain biking, white water rafting adventure in Portland this week. It is the first time we have been apart this long in years! Crazy to think about how much you get used to having that person always there. I'm going to miss him, but it will be fun to Skype & hear about his trip. To counter his wilderness vacation, I am doing a 180 and planning on having a super girly relaxing weekend. I picked up Lena Dunham's book Not That Kind of Girl when it came out on Tuesday (I just missed seeing her at the Union Square B&N) and a couple of Lush Bath Bombs in the girly-est scents, Sex Bomb & Space Girl. The fridge is stocked with what I affectionately call "chic food", aka Pelligrino, fruit, & fancy cheese.... Looks like I'm ready!

WnW LE Lipsticks | Rose to Fame & Urban Nights

I am basically collecting these things...As you know, I am obsessed with the new WnW releases. I have already shared the 2 am Call Time Balm Stain, Smoke & Melrose Eyeshadow Palette, and a couple other fall lipstick shades. But today, I am sharing two new limited edition lipsticks from the fall collection. Rose to Fame is the perfect everyday rose shade, and Urban Nights is that quintessential fall dark, vampy plum. I think it's about time I update that WnW lipstick collection post...

What's in my Work Bag

Over the summer, I shared an updated What's in my Bag post. I love watching the vids and seeing the pics of what people are toting around with them. I have to admit my work bag isn't too much different, until it's stuffed with papers or a laptop. And now there are things I am seeing my last post that I need to put back in here, contact solution and snacks...

Hello October

Happy October! I have already shared my love of October in my September Favourites this morning, so I will keep this brief. Last year, I blogged everyday in September  and had so much fun sharing all things fall. Some of those posts are my favourites ever. Then, I did in again in March, what can I say I like transitional months? So, I am going to make this commitment- for October.

Let the blogging begin!

Beauty Favourites | September 2014

No!! My birthday month is over! Oh well, at least Autumn is now in full swing-I am just waiting on those leaves to change. I am pretty excited about this month. I have always loved October-the crisp air, red leaves, Halloween. I can't wait to carve pumpkins and wander around Prospect Park. For September beauty, I was busting out the fall themed products and loved it.
