Blue Jeans, White Shirt

Today felt like the first hint of spring. It's funny since objectively 55 isn't warm, but after freezing winds it felt like summer. We kept it casual today, running some errands and eating brunch. We were surprised with a late lunch with Preston's dad and grandma. It was so nice to see them.

When in doubt on what to wear, I go for the Sunday Funday shirt. I paired it with some high-waisted skinny jeans. I have been a bit obsessed with the high waist trend, such a different look than the super low rise jeans of my high school days. Since it is still February, I wore ankle boots and a fuzzy sweater (both old finds from Nordstrom Rack). I'm forever carrying my Cuyana tote. In keeping it easy, I whipped my hair up in a high pony (despite Preston showing me the ponytail/intelligence chart-I doubt its validity.)

Are you ready for spring? I secretly wish there was one more good snow day left.

Christmas Lights in Dyker Heights

Dyker Heights is a quiet little neighborhood in Brooklyn. It resembles a suburb more than the city with single family houses and large yards. It is probably best known for its insane Christmas light displays. We had never been before and were quite blown away. As suburb kids, we remember driving around in the car to look at neighbors' decor. This walking tour was like that-times a million, all in four blocks.

We probably had a little too much fun playing with camera settings to bring out that bokeh.

Do you go scouting for Christmas lights?

The Weekend Vlog | We're going droning!

I have been posting The Weekends for awhile now as a way to record our little adventures around Park Slope and New York City. I have been wanting to give vlogging a try, so here is the result of that. A lot of awkwardness, but we had a lot of fun too. We haven't taken the drone out since there was snow on the ground, so it was about time we see Prospect Park in the summer from above.

I really don't know how people manage to vlog everyday. It's a ton of work! I think I am much more picture & writing oriented. It's easy to check to make sure a few pictures are perfect-much harder to clip and trim video. Maybe we will get better at this?

What were you up to this weekend?

The Weekend | DUMBO

We frequent Brooklyn Bridge Park quite regularly throughout the year. It's only a few subway stops away and has amazing views of the city without having to leave Brooklyn. Today, we went to see the new art installations.

We started off the afternoon with lunch at Shake Shack.

Yum!

We've seen a few different art installations over the years and love the more interactive ones. There were rooms made of fountains of water, crazy shaped neon benches, and a spiral maze of mirrors.

You could stand in the 'rooms' without getting wet. Unless a kid decided to splash you...

All the mirror selfies...

I loved seeing Brooklyn and the trees reflected on the mirrors, looking like a part of the skyline.

It was a super hot, humid day, so we ended our afternoon (perfectly timed before this thunderstorm) with venti green teas from Starbucks. Now, I am curled up on the couch watching Call the Midwifes, listening to the rain. Perfect Sunday.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

Pineapples, kale, avocado, oh my!

Happy Saturday! The weather has been perfect-warm & breezy. Preston & I took a leisurely walk to Red Hook to stop by Ikea (I should be typing this at my desk in my new chair; however, something fluffy has taken it over.) I went a little boho themed today in a long jersey dress, ankle boots, a wide brim hat.

I see this fruit mural while on the train on my way to work. I just love it, so I knew I would have to take some pictures. It's called the "Pineapple Mural", and it was done by the Gowanus Canal Conservancy. Gowanus is a super grungy warehouse neighborhood, sandwiched between the more row house aesthetic Park Slope & Carroll Gardens. It's infamous for the lovely, pleasant, totally not a Superfund site, canal. And now the Whole Foods with reasonably priced manuka honey.

Dress & Hat are from Forever 21. I discovered the hat through The Quintessentials Blog-she finds the best bargain pieces. The ankle boots are Vince Camuto from Nordstrom Rack. I love wearing ankle boots year round. I kept the accessories minimal with the Aurora necklace from Jewelmint and my Ray Bans. On my lips, is Wet n Wild Balm Stain in Coral of the Story.

Eat your fruits and veggies.

& enjoy the weekend!

The Weekend | Cherry Blossoms Round III

Everything is coming up roses in Park Slope. Well, not roses yet, but cherry blossoms, dogwood, tulips, magnolias.... Spring & Fall are definitely my favourite seasons in New York. Temperate weather and the changing foliage is gorgeous.

It was another super warm day, so we hit the food trucks and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Finally, all the trees on the esplanade have bloomed!  Pink cotton candy covered branches...I've been trying to work on my braid game. I just recently learned how to dutch braid, and I am loving it. I am still working on the dutch halo braid ...it's so tricky!

Bees!

How was your weekend?
