Deborah Lippmann 'Happy Birthday'

Even though today is not my birthday (hurry up September 7th!), I am wearing Deborah Lippmann's 'Happy Birthday' polish with pride. This is my first DL polish and will certainly not be my last. This glitter is amazing! After learning that this super cute mini bottle was a 100 point perk at Sephora, I searched several stores for several days until I finally found it. If you have the Sephora points, I highly recommend cashing them in on this. If not, keep reading for swatches, a review, and a possible dupe to see if you need to add this polish to your wishlist.

Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday is a glitter polish with a clear base. There are multiple colours and sizes, making it truly a party in a bottle. Below is two coats of 'Happy Birthday' over Zoya Dove with a top coat.

The formula was easy to work with, and you could easily achieve a full glitter nail with only a few coats. Super fun and sparkly, like confetti on your nails.

A colour that is quite similar to Happy Birthday is Wet 'n Wild Party of Five. Party of Five is a glitter in a clear base with, you guessed it, five glitters. The glitters, like Happy Birthday, are varying colours and sizes. One of the most apparent differences is the lack of a gold glitter in Party of Five. The application is different between the two polishes as well. Happy Birthday is much more dense than Party of Five. Below I painted Party of Five (WnW) and Happy Birthday (DL) on alternating nails. Both are two coats over Zoya Dove followed by a top coat.

You can tell the density difference pretty easily. I wouldn't say that you could build up the density of Party of Five because the clear base is pretty thick, unless you perhaps sponged it on. This isn't entirely a negative as it makes it much smoother. With only one layer of top coat WnW Party of Five is smooth whereas DL Happy Birthday is still a bit rough to the touch. Another plus on the WnW side is the price. At $1.99, it's a tenth of the cost of a Deborah Lippmann. So if you are on a budget, you can still get the fun, party on your fingers vibe.

These are definitely at the top of my favourite glitters, and I am really happy that I own both. I think they would be great for layering either in a glitter gradient or in a jelly sandwich. And truly, can you ever have too many glitter polishes?

You can now purchase Deborah Lippmann at Sephora!
Wet 'n Wild is available at drugstores such as Walgreens.
