10 Things to Do This Spring

Happy First Day of Spring! I am still waiting for the weather to catch up. I am hoping the pouring rain outside means no more snow... though I won't hold my breath. I love the change of seasons, it's always so inspiring. I feel like it's kind of like the New Year. I just feel ready to set goals, make little changes, and plan some fun activities. In the spirit of the season, I thought I would share a little list of ten things I want to do this Spring...

1. Plan a trip...
Though I am a couple of years out of the designated 'Spring Break', who doesn't love a little vacation? And I know for my Floridian friends the college spring break has come and gone. Why does Florida have spring break so ridiculously early? Oh yes, because it's always summer. Anyway...last year Preston and I took a long weekend trip to Portland, Oregon and had an amazing time. I would love to repeat the adventure-enjoying long brunches, popping in local shops, and exploring a new city.

2. Make a DIY mask...
The seasons are changing meaning the weather is and in turn your skin. Why not spend an afternoon crafting up an at-home mask? I have been going on and on about wanting to make a manuka honey mask. It's about time I just do it! And you should too, and send me your recipe... Hair masks, body scrubs, and body butters also accepted.

3. Host a dinner party...
My very first post almost two years ago, had this as a goal. Wow, have a failed on that one. Preston & I are lucky enough to have an outdoor space. In New York, this is extremely rare, especially in our price range, and we have just not utilized it enough. So let's make some sangria and lemon shandy, and get together with friends.

4. Try a new make-up trend...
Whether is mastering the winged liner or going bold with a bright lip, switch up your routine. I don't shy away from the liquid liner, but my lipstick game is weak. I have been picking up some coral and apricot options, so hopefully I can drop the over-anxious, 'Is there lipstick on my teeth?' and try a new look. Another trend I see in every magazine is pastel shadow. A wash of mint, lavender, or ivory sound perfect for a spring weekend.

5. A weekend in bed...
The days are longer and the sun brighter. I am planning on taking advantage of light mornings by picking a new book series and spending some weekend mornings in bed reading with a nice cup of tea.

6. Go Local!
Flea markets, food trucks, and farmers' markets are some of my favourite things to do over a spring and summer weekend. Take advantage of the activities in your area. Buy some random produce at the farmer's market and concoct a meal. Pick up some new accessories for your home at a flea market. Have a picnic at the park. I am looking foward to outdoor concerts and of course, the cherry blossom festival!

7. Start a nail mail with a friend...
Or stationery swap or beauty box exchange. It's fun to go shopping for someone else, share your favourites, and get packages in the mail. Win, win, win. Theme it up for the season with pastels and florals for spring, and keep it going all year.

8. Bar cart...
I have been pining for a bar cart, which is odd seeing as I drink very rarely and even more rarely cocktails. But there is something so chic about having a little display ready for guests or an impromptu at-home date night. If you aren't much of a drinker, you could definitely revamp the idea into a coffee cart. So cute.

9. Start a new project...
I know many blog readers are blog writers themselves. And I'm sure like myself you have different goals regarding the direction you are taking it. I have been wanting to add more outfit posts, weekend shots, and maybe even some video tutorials. Plan a way to make that goal a reality. If you aren't a blogger and want to start, take that leap! Or start a new project in your professional or personal life. I know I have quite a few goals in those categories as well. Spring cleaning, exercise, and the above mentioned bar cart all projects on the list...

10. Go cruelty-free, natural, vegan with your beauty...
I have been making the jump to cruelty-free beauty and home products. It's definitely difficult to navigate with all the misinformation out there, and brands constantly changing status (Boscia and Stila, to name a few, are no longer cruelty-free). This spring I want to try more natural brands and vegan companies. One of my favourite resources for cruelty-free and vegan beauty is Logical Harmony.
